GI - Low Carb Diet - Pixi's Evaluation

I'm back! Sorry for the long break! says Pixi today, April 2nd.

And yes, I did the Low Carb GI Diet.

How it worked out? Here is my evaluation:

  • GI Low Carb works - I lost 4 kilos and I have no problem keeping it.
  • GI keeps my sweet tooth in control - Yes! I've no craving for sweets, what so ever!
And I'm so happy! You see, here in Sweden the Low Carb Diets - GI, Atkins, South Beach etc - are hot topics and the antagonists are many. Several doctors are speaking to the press saying, among other things, that Low Carb diets can make you stupid (the lack of fruit and bread, i e carbohydrates), among other things. While American doctors recommend these diets.
So I don't know WHAT to think, says Pixi. It is so confusing!
The only thing I know is that the Low Carb GI worked, and worked very well for me!

What I didn't do?
I just couldn't start exercising. I don't know why, but I guess I think it's boring. Here, I really DO NEED some good advice ... please!

Low Carb GI Diet - Pixi's Day 9

This is really going like on rail! (a Swedish saying when things are going just fine!), says Pixi today.
The Low-Carb GI Quick Start has definitively put me on the right track! I feel HAPPY and GOOD and fine about myself and ... I'm losing weight!
And this was on my menu today:

Low Carb GI Breakfast as usual - ham, crème fraiche, coffee, 1 multivitamin & 1 Omega3
Low Carb GI Lunch - 1 egg, fried fillet of pork, pepper, homemade plum chutney (recipe is coming), water to drink
Low Carb GI Dinner - shrimps, crème fraiche, water
Snacks - water, coffee, plums
+++ Walk - 1/2 hour evening walk with Mem

And I don't fell hungry at all! And my craving for sweets is totally gone! And I just couldn't resist taking a photo of Mem's home-grown pumpkins. They are soooo totally wonderful!

GI Quick Start - Pixi's Day 5,6,7 ...

Sorry for not having reported for some days! says Pixi today.
Everything is fine. In fact, very fine! No craving for sweets (except once), no nibbling, no small eating and no eating after 7 o'clock in the evening.

The worst thing that can happen is when your are invited to somebody's house for dinner, as I was the other night. But when I said I was on a low-carb GI diet, my hosts only asked me what I was allowed to eat. And on this diet, there are no problems at all. Because you can eat something from most meals.

Low-Carb-GI-Breakfast Day 5, 6, 7:
1-2 boiled eggs, shrimps or ham, crème fraiche light, 1 cup of coffee, 1 multivitamine & 1 Omega 3

Low-Carb-GI-Lunch Day 5: Fillet of plaice cooked in the oven, haricot verts, salad, water, 1 peach, a cup of coffee
Day 6: Stuffed peppers with minced meat and feta cheese,
Day 7: Salad with ham and crème fraiche, plums (too many ...), a cup of coffee

Low-Carb GI-Dinner Day 5: Shrimps, green salad with alfalfasprouts, Olive Dressing Super Duper, water, coffee
Day 6: Beef with onion, green salad, plum pie (small slice) with cream
Day 7: Starter - Shrimps, Main course - Meatballs rolled in bacon, wax beans, green salad, compote of plums with cream

Snacks:
vatten, water, coffee, mint tea - and as usual, plums!

But Day 5 I had a real 100% Backlash!
The Pineapple Pie ... there it was, on the table in the dining hall at work. And I just couldn't resist thinking: Just a tiny bit, just to get the taste of it ... please!
But ... after the first tiny slice, I took another, and then one more ... It was divine!
And all the all the plums. The plums are growing like crazy at my aunties' and Mem and I went to pick masses of them the other day. Just to eat. So nice ...

And I haven't been to the gym this week. I haven't even went for a walk. Really outrageously lazy have I been ...
And this was all from Pixi's GI Quick Start Report Day 5, 6 and 7.

GI Low Carb - Pixi's Day 1 and Day 2

Day 1
GI Low-Carb Breakfast: 1 banana, 1 cup of coffee (Pixi overslept and had to hurry to work)
GI Low-Carb Lunch: green salad, boef bourgionenne, rice, water, coffee
GI Low-Carb Dinner: beef, green salad with alfalfa-sprouts
Snacks: coffee, mint tea in the evening

A really bad start on the GI Low-Carb diet. I overslept and was off balance the whole morning ...

Day 2
GI Low Carb Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, 2 slices of ham. 1 cup of coffee, 1 multivitamin + 1 Omega 3 pill
GI Low Carb Lunch: Pepperoni filled with minced meat and feta cheese, green salad, apple pie (a very small slice) with whipped cream (very little), water, coffee
GI Low Carb Dinner: Shrimps, green salad
Snacks: 4 plums, coffee, mint tea

Day 2 went better than Day 1, but I felt tense and stressed and the morning was awful! Irritation! Started to quarrel with Bie. Usually, I try to avoid getting into a discussion with her, she's a bimbo, but today I couldn't handle her. I exploded! So stupid of me. Was it because of the diet, I wonder ...

GI = Glycaemic Index

Gi = Glycaemic Index ... Some Background Facts!

It was professor David Jenkins who developed the GI concept in the 1980's. He realised that different foods containing the same amount of carbohydrate did not have the same effect on blood sugar levels. By realizing this, he could help diabetics to plan their daily intake of food, which is especially important for them.

In short, the GI diet is a method of ranking carbohydrate-containing foods according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. They are ranked on a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 is the response to a food of reference like glucose or white bread.

Following this diet, the carbohydrates should have a low GI, and what you eat should be rich in protein.

Knowing the GI of foods helps you to manage your blood sugar level, and eating low GI foods release the glucose into the blood more evenly throughout the day. And low GI diets can help you lose weight because what you eat is so filling! Pixi reads here, at EUFIC.

Pixi has made up her mind

Low Carb - GI.
I've made a bit of research and I just thought, well, I'll do the Low Carb - GI.
I know some people who did the GI, and they said they were happy with it. I read about some diets, and this Low Carb, or GI as the Swedish Low Carb diet is called, seems to be quite easy and sound to follow. You eat, and you eat well. I have to eat when I diet, I don't think I could live on those powdered protein drinks that Stina did when she lost her 8 kilos.
So tomorrow I'll start with the first phase on the programme - the "Tearing Start", as the GI-gurus call it. For 10 days. And I have planned it well. I'm going to travel for some days in 2 weeks time, just after these first 10 days. Yes, I think I have to give myself some credit for good planning ...
